The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) serves as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the point of care for the Zablocki VA Medical Center and its Community Based Outpatient Clinics. The Licensed Practical Nurse function is to provide quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran population of varying complexity in a variety of settings - primary care, acute care, sub acute, rehabilitation, palliative and long-term care, inpatient, outpatient and home care. The Licensed Practical Nurse possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. Major Duties: Communicates and interacts appropriately and courteously with internal and external customers. Maintains confidentiality of patient/employee information electronically, verbally, and written. Works and functions within a safe manner including infection control and operation of equipment. Integrates and applies pertinent aspects of the Medical Center performance improvement program into his/her professional practice. Utilizes nursing research, evidence based practice and literature in daily practice. Provides care appropriate to the bio-psychosocial needs of the population served. Provides culturally competent care to a diverse patient population. Works within the parameter of approved protocols and the departmental policies and procedures. Practices requirements include Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Provider, through the American Heart Association.
